IATA: July Air Demand Recovery Accelerates
The recovery of global air demand continued in July with traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometers, up 26.2 percent year over year, according to the International Air Transport Association. Planes were full during July as people continue to travel in ever greater numbers and importantly, forward ticket sales indicate that traveler confidence remains high. There is every reason to be optimistic about the continuing recovery.
Stansted Express to return to four trains per hour throughout the day
Stansted Express will return to services every 15 minutes throughout the day later this year, in line with recovering customer demand after the pandemic.In May the firm increased frequencies to four trains per hour during peak morning and afternoon periods, with a half hourly service at other times. Owner Greater Anglia said that it would return to an all day, four trains per hour Stansted Express service, seven days a week from Sunday 10 December. Greater Anglia added that “Off peak journey times will also be slightly quicker, with most services scheduled for 47 minutes, as Greater Anglia is able to take full advantage of now operating new trains, with improved performance capabilities, on all its services”.

Elizabeth line stations and tunnelled sections to have mobile coverage by next year
Transport for London has published an update on the rollout of high-speed mobile coverage across its network. Last summer TFL outlined plans for mobile phone coverage on the London Underground, and the body has now confirmed that the first Elizabeth line stations will get 4G and 5G coverage by the end of the year (Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon and Liverpool Street), with all stations and tunnelled sections on the line going live by the end of spring 2024. Coverage has also been extended to the ticket halls and Central line sections between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road, with further parts of the Northern and Central lines set to go live in the coming months, including Goodge Street, Chancery Lane and Bank stations.

Abu Dhabi Airport
Abu Dhabi Airport has announced that its new terminal at Abu Dhabi International airport will open in ‘early November’ of this year. The airport will be “among the largest airport terminals in the world” and will significantly increase Abu Dhabi International airport’s passenger and cargo capacity. Once operational, the new terminal will accommodate up to 45 million passengers per year. It will be able to process 11,000 travellers per hour and operate 79 aircraft at any given time. Terminal A will feature a range of interconnected biometric systems that will facilitate passage from pre-travel to boarding gate, facilitated by self-service kiosks, streamlined security checkpoints, and advanced baggage handling systems.
Amtrak
Amtrak has announced an order for an additional ten Airo trainsets, “as demand for passenger rail travel exceeds expectations”. The US railroad company now has a total of 83 of the Siemens Mobility trainsets on order, with the first set to enter service in 2026. The new-generation trains will gradually be rolled out across Amtrak’s network, on routes including Northeast Regional, Empire Service, Virginia Services, Keystone Service, Downeaster, Cascades, Maple Leaf, New Haven/Springfield Service, Palmetto, Carolinian, Pennsylvanian, Vermonter, Ethan Allen Express and Adirondack.
